Post cards from Glenwood

Dear Aunt Rachel-

Today I watched a little parade and we got some of this gum, my mom was pretty excited and she said you would be too. Also there was a horse that went to the bathroom right on the road! My mom says that made you throw up once, not me though. ;)

Love,
Siggy

18 Months!

18 months ago I found out I was pregnant with Syd, that seems like a long time, but it has gone pretty fast. She is not nursing anymore and last Sunday I said to Neil "Oh no now I have to start fasting again!" I know, I am awful to feel that way. I am still trying to gain a testimony of that one, especially while being the singing leader in Primary, pretty sure I will be passing out...

Anyway. We went to the dr. for Syd's 9 month check up. We have really been blessed that she has been a really healthy baby. I really like our doctor, even if the office and a lot of the people that go there are totally ghetto. She now weighs 15 1/2 lbs and is 27 inches long and has a big head...haha, she gets that from the Schmalz's I hear;) I think her head is in the 75th percentile and her height is like 70 and her body is 40.

Waiting at the dr's office

I love when I check on her and she is sleeping in a funny position. Since she finally figured out how to roll over she rolls all over her bed at night.
Her hair is starting to grow out, I trimmed it a few weeks ago and now it is growing out more evenly and I can pull it up on top of her head. I guess it's okay that she looks older now, sob!

Any time I pull out the camera she smiles her guts out, it is so great:)

I found these two activity tables on Craigslist, 20 bucks for both, I was so happy to find them! She loves them and squeals and dances to the music.

Except I am sad because I think I ruined this one. I was trying to wash it up and I must have got water inside it because it is acting weird and doesn't all work:( I also dumped Diet Coke on the laptop. The laptop is fine, I am glad that is the one that started working again, pretty sure we can't afford a new laptop...

A post about dirty and clean and everything in between.

In my internet wanderings the other day I came across this blog

http://shoesoffatthedoorplease.blogspot.com/

I always wore shoes in the house growing up, my mom did not like dirty socks! On my mission in New Zealand I got in the habit of not wearing shoes in the house because no one does. It feels totally unnatural for me to wear shoes in the house (one reason I love living in a warm climate, flip flops 10 months of the year!) however, I don't require people to take their shoes off when they come in my house. But I know that some people do. As in they won't let you in the house if you are wearing your shoes. It's their way or the highway.

I will admit that when you don't wear shoes in the house it is a little frustrating when a someone tracks in snow or rain or mud and you step in it with your stocking feet, yuck, there is almost nothing worse (another reason I love a warm climate!) However I don't think I would really ever get to the point where I would tell people to take their shoes off or go home. Then it got me thinking. If you are going to make people take their shoes off so they don't scuff your nice wood floors, maybe you could have some "guest slippers" available. Better yet, have a few pairs of these around.

That way your floors would not get scuffed and they would get dusted at the same time! Brilliant!

But what about those of us who are not fancy enough to have wood floors and have to make due with carpet? How about these babies?

Sweet, everyone strap on a pair of these vacuum shoes and get moving! woo hoo!

Okay but seriously. I want to know what you think. What are your rules? Read some of the above blog, it will get you thinking.

Discuss.

A crafty alien has taken over my body.

The other day I was telling my mom that Syd was getting bored with her toys and she needed some new ones. She challenged me to make some home made ones. Here is what I came up with.

I took the wrapper off a formula can and mod podged scrapbook paper on it. I spray painted the lid pink and I mod podged some ribbon to the top and bottom. Then I filled it with pea gravel and jingle bells. She rolls it around and likes the noise. She beats on the top like a drum and she looks in the shiny bottom and smiles in her "mirror" then I got a little coke bottle, drank the diet coke, took the wrapper off, put pea gravel, glitter, sequins and water in it, then I superglued the lid on. She likes to roll it around and pick it up and shake it to watch everything float around.

She wears leg warmers all the time to protect her knees while crawling. But the ones that I see at the store cost like 10 dollars and up, blah. So I went to the 99 cents store and found some knee socks. They only had one color, I will have to look around for more. I cut off the feet part and sewed around the top. Yes, I don't have a sewing machine so I did it by hand. When I steal Rachel's I will sew it better and maybe sew some stretchy fabric and a ruffle or something. Anyway, they are just utilitarian for now, but they do the job!

Poor Sydney the red nosed reindeer. She has had a super runny nose the last week. I promise I use the nice tissues, but her nose looks awful!

Sunday

Sundays wear us out. I am worn out from primary, Neil is worn out from wrestling Syd. Syd is worn out from trying to sit still and having no naps. Also right now just going to church at 1 o'clock in the 110 degree heat about kills us off! By the time we get into the church we are sweaty and gross.

After church yesterday- She learned to climb up on the fireplace, bad girl!

She does look cute when we leave for church. Here she is in a dress Grandma Sherry made for her:)

I forgot to watch fireworks. Sad smiley.

We headed out Thursday after work for St. George. We were planning to hop in with my parents and drive to Salt Lake that night. We hit bad traffic coming out of Vegas. We knew we would be stuck for a while so we made a stop at the Stagecoach Depot. How can you not love a convenience store in a double wide trailer? We got some snacks and got back on the road. We finally got to St. George only to hear that traffic leaving town was backed up for 10 miles because of construction. Oh back up. Lets not forget that we left Vegas an HOUR late because I picked Neil up an hour late...yeah. I took him to work early so I could come and get him at 4:00 and we could leave. At 4:30 I was all packed and driving off to get him feeling good about being on time and all. Then it hit me. I was supposed to leave at 3:30, not 4:30! Seriously I amaze myself sometimes. It is a miracle Syd is still alive. I think dumping a diet coke all over the laptop earlier threw me off. Anyway... we were all so tired and decided we would rather go to bed early and get up really early and drive to Salt Lake for Paige's wedding at the Draper Temple.

Well, we did not get to bed so early and still got up at 4:00 yes, that is right AM, ahhh! Still it was better than driving all night in my opinion. The wedding was wonderful, I am glad we made it!

Here are Syd and Neil at the wedding lunch.

The reception was AMAZING. It was like walking into the Martha Stewart Wedding magazine. They had a cotton candy machine, it was sublime.

Here I am with my cousins Kim and Amy. There are five girls on my dads side who are the same age, we were all together last weekend for the first time in a loooong time, I blame it on Kim because she moved to Chile ;) We all took a picture together at the 4th of July party, but I could not find my camera. Hopefully someone else will post one on their blog so I can steal it (hint hint).

I am standing on a hill, that is why I look so tall and I am taller than them anyway so I look like a giantess. Kim (in the middle) is wearing a skirt made out of her old curtains, just like Maria before she married captain Von Trap, awesome!! I love it!

My aunt and uncle have the most amazing back yard! Syd loved the swing:)

Looks like Syd takes after Aunt Corinne!

On the 3rd of July we celebrated the 4th of July because we are Mormon and don't celebrate holidays on Sunday, unless of course it's Christmas because there is no way we are waiting an extra day for presents!

We stayed at Becky and Jeff's house. They were out of town and we missed them:( But we enjoyed their hammock, here is Syd and Grandma having some quality time.

The 3rd/4th of July party was awesome as usual, Walt and Ann host the best party ever in their yard every year complete with a patriotic program. This year it included a song from Wicked. I almost got Rachel to sing "Party in the USA" with me, but she would not. We settled on America the beautiful...is that what it is called? Anyway, you know "oh beautiful for spacious skies, etc". We only had to start over one time, so we felt pretty good about it.

On Sunday we drove back to St. George. Neil Syd and I went to stay with the Schmalz's. We had a great time and slept in the most comfortable bed on the planet.

Syd was so happy to have some new toys to play with, except the turtle. She is afraid of the turtle. Thanks a lot Aunt Corinne! jk:) Notice the two boxes of tissues behind her. She had a little cold and a lot of snot. Even Uncle Ethan wiped her nose! How many 17 year old boys would do that? What a sweetheart:)
She is the blur, crawling all over the place

We had to barricade her in the living room.

Hey you guuuuuyyyyys... (name the movie)

Syd was fascinated by Zoe the diaper wearing dog, so was I, hee hee I could not stop laughing!

Syd and Grandpa Rocky

On the way home I was wearing glasses but also needed sunglasses, so I pulled a Stephanie.
Now we are home and glad to be here for a few weeks. Our passports arrived and we are excited to go to Canada at the end of the month.

Her hair is getting too long for the Kewpie doll look, but it is pretty hard to pull up on top, not really sure what to do with it. And yes, She has to have a hairdo!

Her favorite thing to do now is to try to pull herself up on everything she sees. It makes for interesting days. I love watching her think and learn and grow.

After we got home I realized that we did not get to see a big fireworks show, I was sad because that is my favorite part of the 4th of July. Oh well, maybe next year.

The End
